As part of its CES 2021 activities, Lenovo has announced three new IdeaPad notebooks: the IdeaPad 5i Pro, IdeaPad 5 Pro, and IdeaPad 5G. The latter of these three models is definitely the niche, as 5G is still not what the average consumer is likely to be looking for in a laptop. Especially when you consider that IdeaPad devices are more geared towards mainstream consumers than business users.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G supports sub-6 GHz networks, but falls back on 4G speeds where 5G is not available. The IdeaPad 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G SoC with Adreno 680 graphics with up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Other specs include a 14-inch IPS display (1920 × 1080), 512 GB PCIe SSD storage, and a 51 Wh battery that reportedly can run for up to 20 hours when continuously watching videos.
The notebook has front-facing Dolby Audio speakers, a dual array microphone, and an infrared camera to unlock the notebook with your face. The IdeaPad 5G is also one of the first Lenovo devices to include a new software feature called Show Mode for PC. Basically, it turns the notebook into an Echo Show-like device. With Amazon Alexa you can play music, start apps, control your other smart home devices and much more. This new feature will be available sometime in the second quarter of 2021 and is expected to reach select other new and existing IdeaPad laptops in the future.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G has no release date or price yet, although we know it won’t be sold in the US. There will also be a 4G / LTE-only version running on the Snapdragon 8c platform in select markets.
Now let’s take a quick look at the IdeaPad 5i Pro and IdeaPad 5 Pro. These notebooks will be the first IdeaPad models to feature a 16:10 aspect ratio and should offer a better multitasking experience than previous IdeaPad laptops. Both the IdeaPad 5i Pro and IdeaPad 5 Pro are sold in 14-inch and 16-inch versions and are available in either Storm Gray or Cloud Gray.
The IdeaPad 5i Pro uses 11th generation Intel Core i7 processors as well as integrated Nvidia MX450 graphics. In these notebooks you can get up to 16 GB DDR4 RAM and up to 1 TB SSD PCIe M.2 storage. The 14-inch version has a 2.8 K IPS display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and 400 nits of brightness as well as a battery with 56.5 Wh. The 16-inch model has a 2.5 K-IPS display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 350 nits. It has a 75 Wh battery and supports Thunderbolt 4 technology with one cable. The 14-inch version will be sold in Europe from 699 euros in March, the 16-inch model from 899 euros.
The 14-inch IdeaPad 5 Pro will use next-generation AMD Ryzen H-series mobile processors, as well as integrated Nvidia MX450 graphics. Up to 16 GB DDR4 RAM and up to 1 TB SSD PCIe M.2 storage are supported. The 2.8 K IPS display has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, a brightness of 400 nits and a battery with 56.5 Wh. It will go on sale in Europe in March from 799 euros.
The 16-inch IdeaPad 5 Pro will also contain the next-generation AMD Ryzen H-series mobile processors. However, buyers are given a range of graphics chip options, including the upcoming next-gen Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs. You can add up to 32 GB DDR4 RAM and up to 1 TB SSD PCIe M.2 storage. The 2.5 K IPS display offers a high refresh rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 350 nits as well as a 75 Wh battery. It will go on sale in Europe in May at a starting price of € 1,149.99.

Inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor with up to 6 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel front camera and quad speakers. It supports a variety of optional accessories, including the clip-on keyboard package with built-in stand and the Lenovo Precision Pen 2-pen with a 60 Hz battery that lasts up to 200 hours on a single charge.
