- Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg apparently used the signal app.
- A security researcher used his number to confirm that he has a signal account.
- Zuckerberg’s number was one of millions leaked in a Facebook hack in 2019.
Just a few days ago it became known that phone numbers and other details of 533 million Facebook users had been leaked in a hacking forum. The treasure trove may have been accessed via a 2019 vulnerability that has since been fixed, and it turns out that the phone number of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook co-founder, has also been leaked.
Well security researcher Dave Walker (h / t: India today) used Zuckerberg’s number to find out he used the Signal Messaging app. Walker also posted a screenshot showing the Facebook co-founder’s alleged contact on Signal. Check it out below.
It’s entirely possible that the Facebook co-founder simply used Signal to check out the competition and nothing more. But there’s also the obvious implication that Zuckerberg is actively using Signal as a messaging app because he prefers its security, features, and / or design. For what’s worth it, Walker says The signal account was closed yesterday (April 5th). Take this for what you want.
So is the researcher seemed to suggest that Zuckerberg wasn’t in the telegram. However, the app allows you to restrict who can find you on the service based on your phone number. So in theory, it’s still possible for the Facebook co-founder to use the platform.
We asked Facebook for a comment on Zuckerberg’s signal account (i.e. whether it was actively used and whether he is still using WhatsApp). “This is not something we would comment on and we have nothing more to add,” said a company official Android Authority.
