- A leak appears to have revealed Sony’s upcoming WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds.
- They may support high resolution audio and wireless charging.
- They could arrive as early as June.
There may be good news that you have been waiting for the continuation of Sony’s excellent WF-1000XM3 wireless earbuds. The Walkman Blog allegedly received leaked images of the Sony WF-1000XM4 – a sequel that may include more than just ergonomic or sound quality changes.
The WF-1000XM4 design appears to be curvier and more ear-friendly than the previous Sony offering. However, the leak also supports previous claims that Sony will add Hi-Res audio support. It also suggests faster wired charging and a wireless AirPods charging case.

You may also get six hours of listening time per charge. This is in line with previous Sony official figures. So don’t expect additional playback time. There’s no mention of water resistance to help buds survive your gym workout.
It is not certain when Sony could release the WF-1000XM4. However, the FCC filing for the earbuds increased the end of short-term confidentiality (the length of time companies can keep key details private) from the original September 27 through June 9. There’s no guarantee that Sony will ship or announce the XM4 by this point in June, but the change suggests the company may be ready to unveil its newest flagship audio sooner than this fall.
We liked the XM3 precisely because it combines good basic sound quality, strong active noise cancellation and adaptive sound in one elegant package. It’s one of the few cross-platform wireless earbud options that hit the mark. Sony could see success with the WF-1000XM4 if it can build on that earlier formula.
