TL; DR

  • A reliable source has revealed the specifications of the JioPhone Next.
  • The device could be equipped with Android 11 (Go Edition) and a Qualcomm CPU suitable for the masses.

India’s leading telecommunications provider Reliance Jio announced the JioPhone Next in cooperation with Google back in June. The device is said to be the cheapest smartphone in the world. However, at the time of the reveal, Jio and Google didn’t tell us much about the phone’s specs. Now, XDA‘S Mishaal Rahman shed a little more light on what we can expect from the budget phone.

Rahman does not disclose where or how he got the information, but he posted several details about the JioPhone Next on Twitter, including the phone’s boot animation screen. He claims the device appears to have Qualcomm’s 215 CPU. The 64-bit SoC is designed for mass market devices, exactly what the JioPhone Next is supposed to be. It offers clock rates of up to 1.3 GHz and has four ARM Cortex A53 cores. The chipset currently powers some of Nokia’s entry-level phones such as the Nokia 1.4.

Elsewhere, Rahman says that the JioPhone Next should run the Android 11 (Go Edition) out of the box. The software targets devices with up to 2 GB of RAM and promises 20% faster app launches than its previous version, better notification management, one-time data protection permissions, and other new features.

The boot animation suggests that the display could achieve a resolution of 1,440 x 720. The JioPhone Next’s cameras should include a 13 MP primary shooter and a 5 MP selfie snapper.

The information also indicates that the phone will come pre-installed with a new version of Google’s Camera Go and the Google Duo Go apps.
