After debuting in China earlier this year, the Vivo sub-brand Iqoo has announced its new Iqoo 7 series in India.
Two devices, the Iqoo 7 and the Iqoo 7 Legend, have some aesthetic differences. The legend is wrapped in a BMW Motorsport-inspired three-stripe paintwork with a more square camera arrangement at the rear. The standard Iqoo 7 is more restrained in its color options and has a more rectangular camera hump on the back.
Despite these visual deviations, the two phones share several basic specifications. Both carry a 6.62-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 and HDR10 Plus support. The display also offers a basic touch sampling rate of 300 Hz, but can be buffered to 1,000 Hz with Super Touch Acceleration if required. The two Iqoo 7 models also share 66 W FlashCharge technology, a 48-megapixel primary shooter with OIS and pixel-shift technology, and a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera. A 16-megapixel selfie camera is in a hole on both devices.
However, the Iqoo 7 Legend is the headlining model in terms of performance. It is powered by the faster Snapdragon 888 SoC and has a 4,000 mAh battery. It also features a 13MP 50mm portrait camera as a third rear shooter. Pressure sensitive touch buttons and linear vibration motors also add to the slope of the game.
The standard Iqoo 7 has a Snapdragon 870 SoC with a larger 4,400 mAh battery. This could make it a better option if longevity is an important buying decision for you. Mobile photographers, however, have to settle for a remarkable shift from the 13MP portrait snapper to a 2MP mono camera.
Iqoo 7 series: price and availability
Pricing for the Iqoo 7 starts at Rs 31,990 (~ $ 426) for the 8GB / 128GB variant and Rs33,990 (~ $ 453) for the 8GB / 256GB model. A 12GB / 256GB version is also offered for Rs 35,990 (~ $ 480 USD). It will be available in the colors Storm Black and Solid Ice Blue.
The Iqoo 7 Legend will be available in 8GB / 128GB and 12GB / 256GB versions priced at Rs 39,990 (~ $ 533) and Rs 43,990 (~ $ 587), respectively. Unsurprisingly, it will only be available in its racing color of the same name.
Both phones will be available for pre-order from May 1st on the Iqoo official website and Amazon India.
That’s pretty competitive price coverage for the legend, considering their main competitor, the Snapdragon 888, the OnePlus 9, starts at Rs 49,999 (~ USD 666). The Iqoo 7 targets the Snapdragon 870-powered OnePlus 9R, which retails for Rs 39,999 (~ $ 534).
