How fast is Apple’s new A14 Bionic Chip? That’s the question our own Gary Sims is definitely trying to answer with his latest Speed Test G challenge, putting the iPhone 12 against the OnePlus 8T and its Snapdragon 865 chipset.

Spoiler warning: The iPhone 12 wins the competition convincingly and finishes the test suite in just 63 seconds up to the OnePlus 8T’s time of 78.8 seconds. The two phones were a bit close together through the CPU portion of the benchmark, but then the iPhone moved ahead when it got into the mixed and GPU areas and never looked back. The completion times don’t tell the whole story either. The iPhone 12 achieved much better frame rates in Unity and in the fuzzy particle test. You should watch the video to see how much better the iPhone does in these applications.
After losing so badly to the iPhone 12, you might think the OnePlus 8T is a sucker, but it’s actually not. With a time of 78.8 seconds, it belongs to the top group of Android devices that we subjected to our Speed Test G tests. As a 7 nm chip, the Snapdragon 865 of the 8T always had a hard time with the 5 nm A14 and the roughly 1.5 billion additional transistors it has in its favor. It will be interesting to look back at this result as soon as Qualcomm’s new flagship SoC finds its way into next year’s high-end phones.
