Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro launch all but confirmed for later this week
- Huawei will introduce several new devices on September 10th.
- The company has teased what looks like the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro.
- Huawei will also showcase the new FreeBuds Pro TWS earbuds at the event.
The 2020 edition of Huawei’s annual developer conference – HDC – begins on September 10th. All eyes are on what the Chinese company will say regarding heightened tensions with the US government. There’s no word yet about the future of Huawei’s mobile software ecosystem or its Kirin chips, but the company has confirmed a number of new accessories due to hit the market on September 10th.
First of all, we could see the highly anticipated Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro at the event. Huawei’s launch teaser image posted on Weibo matches the leaked renders of the Watch GT 2 Pro we saw last week. Rumor has it that this time around, the smartwatch will get support for wireless charging from Qi, which its predecessor lacked. Otherwise, not much seems to be changing, and there is no word on what software the GT 2 Pro will get. While the company’s US license has expired, we don’t expect the Watch GT 2 Pro to come with Google’s Wear OS software. On the other hand, Wear OS is open source and Huawei could build the software on it.
In addition to the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro, the company has also confirmed the launch of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro. The Pro version of the TWS earphones promises better active noise cancellation, which we missed a lot in the FreeBuds 3.
Huawei is also teasing new neckband-style headphones for the September 10 event. The company launched similar Bluetooth earbuds called the Huawei FreeLace Pro back in August, and we believe they could simply be put back on display on the HDC stage.
We could also take another look at the Huawei Watch Fit at the conference in China. The new smartwatch, which looks like a slimmer Apple Watch, is already available in Dubai, and Huawei could showcase it at the event for its home market.
Turn on Android Authority on September 10th for all of Huawei’s announcements of HDC 2020.
