  • Huawei reportedly plans to launch the P50 in the first half of 2021.
  • It is claimed that the new phone will be powered by the Kirin 9000 processor.
  • This is happening despite Huawei reportedly claiming the Mate 40 will be Kirin’s last flagship.

While the US sanctions have done a lot of damage to Huawei’s business, it hasn’t stopped the company from making flagship phones. The company unveiled the Mate 40 series last month, and it looks like the Huawei P50 series is still on the way too.

Korean outlet The Elec reports that the launch of the Huawei P50 series is planned for the first half of 2021, citing people with “direct knowledge” of the situation. The outlet adds that LG and Samsung are preparing to ship OLED panels for the new flagship.

A new P-Series flagship in the first half of 2021 is not at all surprising as this has been the release schedule for years. The publication states that the Kirin 9000 processor will power the new smartphone. This came after Huawei allegedly suggested that the Mate 40 series would be the last flagship Kirin-operated flagship.

If this report is confirmed, it suggests that Huawei still has enough supplies of Kirin 9000 chipsets to ship its flagships for early 2021. Therefore, it may not have to rely on less powerful chipsets or processors from other chip manufacturers just yet.

Even if the Huawei P50 series can offer the Kirin 9000 processor, the product line will still be subject to US sanctions and a ban on using Google Mobile Services. Hence, the brand will likely rely heavily on its home market of China for the majority of its sales.

However, we thought the Huawei Mate 40 Pro was a great all-round experience if you aren’t into the Google integration. If the lack of Google support isn’t a deal breaker for you, then keep an eye out for the P50 as well.
