Huawei Mate X2 details surface: Expect in-folding design
- According to reports, the specifications of the Huawei Mate X2 have surfaced online.
- It is believed that the new foldable design offers a retractable design.
- The Kirin 9000 processor and a quad rear camera setup could also be present.
The Huawei Mate X and Mate XS took a different approach to the foldable phone than Samsung, opting for a fold-out design with the main screen on the outside. We’ve heard murmurs for a while that the company might be keeping an eye on Samsung’s collapsible form factor with the Mate X2, and we’ve now heard even clearer details.
Weibo Leaker’s Digital Chat Station revealed what the Mate X2’s specs could be, and in part cited a TENAA filing. For starters, it seems like you could expect an 8.01-inch screen with a 2,480 × 2,200 collapsible screen and a 6.45-inch (2,700 × 1,160) secondary screen that is supposedly on the front. The foldable device appears to be quite capable in terms of core specs too. It is said to offer a Kirin 9000 processor, a 4,400 mAh battery and a 66 W charge.
The tipster also gave out clearer details, claiming a 16-megapixel front camera (it’s unclear whether this is shown on the main screen or on the secondary screen) and a quad rear camera combo (50-megapixel + 16-megapixel + 12-megapixel + 8 megapixels). The Huawei Mate X2 is also said to support 10x zoom, although it is not known whether it is native or hybrid zoom.
Finally, the new leaflet is believed to still be running Android 10, which would be a shame but not surprising given that EMUI 11 is currently based on the older version of Android. There is no guarantee that the new US government will give Google the green light to deal with Huawei. So don’t hold your breath for Google Mobile Services just yet.
In either case, the foldable phone segment appears to be busy in 2021. Samsung is offering cheaper support for foldable phones as well as S-Pen support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, while Xiaomi is reportedly working on a foldable phone with the code name Cetus.
