HTC is still making phones, and its latest is pretty decent

  • HTC released its first phone from 2021, the Desire 21 Pro 5G.
  • It offers 5G, a 90 Hz display and a 5,000 mAh battery, but with a Snapdragon 690 chip.
  • It sells for around $ 428 in Taiwan, but getting it elsewhere can be a challenge.

HTC’s mobile division is a shadow of its former self, and the lackluster U20 5G didn’t exactly improve the chances of a turnaround. However, the company is still launching phones in 2021 – and you might even like what it has to offer. Android police reports that HTC introduced the Desire 21 Pro 5G, a mid-range device that offers a lot of power for the money.

In addition to faster cellular data, the Desire 21 Pro 5G focuses on a 6.7-inch 1080p display with a refresh rate of 90Hz (HTC’s first 90Hz screen, believe it or not). The performance between the Snapdragon 690 chip and 8GB of RAM is strictly mediocre, but you get a huge 5,000mAh battery and 128GB of expandable storage.

You also get a healthy selection of rear cameras, including a 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, a 2-megapixel macro, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. A 16-megapixel pinhole camera offers selfies on the front. Software isn’t HTC’s strong point, however, as the phone still ships with Android 10.

HTC sells the Desire 21 Pro 5G in its home country for $ 11,990 Taiwan, or around $ 428. It may not offer as much raw value as a device like the Pixel 4a or OnePlus Nord, but the combination of features can give it an edge. The challenge can be as simple as buying one. HTC hasn’t said whether it will sell the new Desire outside of Taiwan, and we wouldn’t expect it if the company had relatively limited resources.
