How to Verify Your Facebook Page in 5 Steps [+ Why You Should]
The other day I was looking for “Taylor Swift” on Facebook.
I was shocked to find it Hundreds – if not thousands – of Taylor Swifts in the United States alone.
Fortunately, I was able to easily find the mega pop star’s page with the help of a little blue badge:
When searching for a company (or person) on Facebook, having a verified ID is often the easiest and most reliable way to ensure that the page you have found is authentic.
As a business, it’s important that you use a verified badge so that prospects and customers can easily find your true side and access up-to-date, accurate information about your brand. Without a verified badge, it can be difficult to trust whether the site is legitimate.
However, the process of securing a verified ID is different for a company site than a personal profile. Here we’re going to examine the steps you need to take to get a verified badge – and why it matters to your brand in the first place.
How to check out a Facebook page
Note: The following steps describe how to review a Facebook business page. If you’d like to review a profile instead, fill out the same form but must upload a copy of your government-issued official photo identification instead. (You only need to review a profile if you are a public figure or celebrity.)
1. You must Fill out this form to request a blue verification badge from Facebook. Since this is business, you want to click on “Page” instead of “Profile” …
… then click the Select Page to Review dropdown menu to find your Company Page in the list. (Note: you must be an administrator of the Business Manager account to submit this form.)
2. Since this is a corporate site, you will need to include a copy of a phone or utility bill, deed of incorporation, articles of association, or tax exemption documents.
3. Complete the field explaining why you want the account to have verified ID. They must contain at least 10 characters.
4. If possible, add additional URLs for social media accounts and additional comments.
5. When you’re done, click Submit. You will be redirected to the following page where you can view the status of your request:
(Facebook hints: “You will receive a notification as soon as we have reviewed your request. Please do not send more than one request for your account. If your request is rejected, you can send a new request after 30 days.”)
Why can’t I check my Facebook business page?
There are a few reasons why Facebook might decline your request. Let’s examine two common problems and how to fix them.
1. Something is wrong with your submitted documents.
Facebook describes some key issues you may have with the documents you submitted in the request form. If your document does not meet Facebook requirements or is of low resolution or quality, you should upload a new document that meets Facebook standards.
For example your document:
- Couldn’t be the type of document Facebook accepts (more on that here).
- Could be a self-submitted document. Facebook needs to see a document with an official signature or seal.
- The document is blurry, has a low resolution, or is damaged. Make sure you have scanned your document at a high resolution or a high format.
- The document has expired.
- The document you submitted does not contain your full business address.
- The language of the document is not supported (supported languages are shown in the picture below):
2. Your information – including your company website, business address, and legal name of your company – does not match.
When it comes to requesting a verified badge, accuracy and attention to detail is key. For example, your request may be denied if the company name listed in your Facebook business settings is different from the name shown in your submitted documents.
Here are some considerations to keep in mind:
- The legal company name on your submitted document must match the name that appears in your business settings. (To fix this, update your company name in the business settings or submit a new document that includes the company name that appears in your business settings.)
- Your document must include your company’s full address and phone number. (A partial address is not accepted.)
- Your email domain must match your website address, and your website should contain your company name or logo.
- Your company name must be listed on your submitted document. For example, if a utility bill includes your company phone number but does not include your company name, it will not be accepted. (For more information on acceptable documents, see here.)
Why it is important to check out my Facebook business page
A verified ID lets prospects and customers know that they can trust your Facebook Page as the true, authentic presence of your brand. In addition, it is often important to differentiate your brand from other, similar terms that may make it difficult for users to find your business on Facebook.
Aside from increased visibility, however, a verified Facebook business page offers a few other important benefits.
For one, the Facebook algorithm automatically places verified badges at the top of search results when someone searches for your business. This is especially important if your brand is hosting some groups on Facebook.
For example, HubSpot has some special groups for different niche purposes like HubSpot education or HubSpot marketers. It is important that when searching for “HubSpot”, Facebook users can find the more general, official HubSpot site. So it’s good that the HubSpot site has a verified badge that can get it to the top of search results:
Since the verified badge helps keep your brand high in search results, ideally having a verified badge will increase your number of followers and leads – a key benefit of the icon.
With a verified ID you also have early access to new Facebook functions that are not yet available to all users. This can help you hold out against competitors who may not have the same access.
And that’s it! You can now request a verified ID for your own company site. Next, check out the Ultimate Guide to Facebook Marketing for more tips on how to increase demand and grow your business on Facebook.
