How to delete a PlayStation Network account

Deleting a PlayStation Network (PSN) account is different from deleting a user on a PS4 or PS5. The latter deletes saved data, settings and topics associated with this user, while deleting a PSN account completely deletes all content associated with the account. This includes personal data and purchased software.

There are a few reasons you might want to delete a PSN account. Some may want to delete an old account that you used on a different console, or they may want a different username. Either way, Sony isn’t making it easy, but that’s probably a good thing for security reasons. The process of deleting a PSN account involves contacting Sony directly. How to permanently delete a PSN account

1. First, here’s how to close your account. Here Sony outlines that the following will happen:

• The online ID of the closed account cannot be used to create another account.
• You will lose access to any content that you purchased with the account. This content cannot be transferred to another account and refunds can only be made in accordance with the PlayStation Store’s cancellation policy.
• You will lose access to all subscriptions and associated permissions.
• You lose access to your PSN wallet. Funds in your wallet cannot be returned as stated in the terms of use.

2. After reading all of this, go back to the beginning and find the “Contact Us” link that will take you to the main Sony support page.

3. From there, click on “Change online ID and other account questions” and start a live chat in the area that appears.

4. After entering the required information (Sony and its support staff will not ask for a password) speak to a real person who you can complete the process with. This agent will likely clarify the above things to you again before proceeding with the account closure.
