It seems like flagship Android phones are coming out on top when it comes to RAM every year. Over a decade ago, 1 GB or even 512 MB was considered a lot of RAM for a high-end phone. Fast forward to 2021 and we’ve seen phones with 16GB or even 18GB of storage.
But how much RAM is good enough for you? Are you satisfied with 2GB or 3GB of RAM in your phone, or do you need a lot more storage? Let us know by taking the survey below.
There are several reasons you might want more RAM, with multitasking being the biggest. More RAM generally allows more apps to be kept in the background. Phones with a low storage capacity can only juggle a few apps at a time before an app has to be completely reloaded.
On the other hand, there comes a point where a lot of RAM doesn’t really make a difference for real world usage. There are also other factors to consider when determining performance, such as the type of memory, processor, and memory type.
We have also seen an increasing number of companies offer “virtual RAM” solutions that essentially treat a few gigabytes of onboard storage as additional RAM (ie a paging file). Storage isn’t as fast as RAM, but it could definitely help if your phone’s multitasking capabilities aren’t up to date.
Anyway, do let us know what you think about the survey above and leave a comment below if you have more to say.
