Personally, water resistance has been an important feature for me over the years, giving me security if I’m trapped in the rain or if the device accidentally falls into the water. However, IP ratings have their drawbacks.
One of the biggest drawbacks is that IP ratings are not cheap for manufacturers, which is why these costs are often passed on to consumers. This is probably why we rarely see mid-range and low-end phones with official water resistance ratings. Another lesser-known disadvantage of a waterproof phone is that the repair itself is often more difficult because the device contains a ton of seals.
