Asus has finally unveiled its flagship duo for the year – the Zenfone 8 and the Zenfone 8 Flip. The two phones share the Snapdragon 888 chip and thus qualify for the premium league. But in addition to the fast processor, the siblings differ in terms of the technical data and functions they offer.
For example, the standard Zenfone 8 is aimed at buyers who want to remain pocket-friendly in terms of both size and cost. It costs 599 euros and has a 6-inch screen for those who prefer their flagships to be compact. It also has some advantages over the more expensive Zenfone 8 Flip with a 120Hz display, IP68 water and dust protection, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and OIS on the main camera.
However, the vanilla model lacks the Zenfone 8 Flip’s main attraction – the funky camera. You get a 64-megapixel primary shooter, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera on the Flip. You can flip this primary camera setup to click selfies, which gives the phone a notable advantage over the standard Zenfone 8. The standard Zenfone 8 also lacks a telephoto camera.
Elsewhere, the battery capacity of both phones (on paper) is sufficient at 4,000 mAh for the standard model and 5,000 mAh for the Flip. Both are equipped with 30 W wired charging.
With all of these features, the new Zenfones compete with existing flagships like the Galaxy S21 series, Mi 11 Ultra, OnePlus 9 and even the iPhone 12.
In our review of the Zenfone 8, we found that the size of the phone makes it easy to use, the display looks amazing, and the overall performance is excellent. However, the cameras and battery life didn’t impress us.
