Honor plans to ship more phones in 2021 than former parent Huawei
- Honor is reportedly planning to ship 100 million smartphones in 2021.
- This could be more than the former parent company Huawei.
Huawei sold its Honor sub-brand last month due to pressure from U.S. sanctions and the brand’s supply chain, and it looks like the newly independent company has some lofty goals for 2021.
Now, Nikkei Asia Review reports that Honor plans to ship around 100 million smartphones next year, citing multiple suppliers. This would supposedly result in a 40% increase over current deliveries.
Oddly enough, this could mean that Honor is shipping more smartphones than its previous parent company Huawei. The outlet reports that Huawei plans to ship nearly 60 million units over the next year.
One potential hurdle for Honor is US supplier approval, although those suppliers are expected to sign deals with the new independent smartphone brand later this month.

In addition, Qualcomm announced earlier this month that it was in talks with Honor while Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek appears to be preparing to ship to the brand in 2021, which however is not really up to date.
Honor has traditionally relied on internal Kirin processors for its top-end phones, but Huawei is no longer able to manufacture these high-end SoCs due to the US trade ban. So it stands to reason that the new Honor will use MediaTek or Qualcomm chips for flagship devices when it receives US approval.
