Here’s when to expect LG’s Project B rollable phone
- LG is slated to launch its rollable phone in March 2021.
- The company had already spiced up the design when the LG Wing was launched.
Rumors and an official clue suggest that LG will launch a rollable smartphone at some point in the future, which will be referred to as Project B for the time being. This is meant to provide a pull-out screen on the side that could allow for a tablet experience in your pocket.
Well, Korean outlet The Elec reports that this rollable smartphone will hit the market in March 2021. This reflects the “early 2021” launch window that was touted by the release earlier this year.
There’s not much to know about the Project B device just yet, but it’s believed that LG will make the device itself rather than relying on an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). Speaking of ODMs, The Elec claims that the LG Velvet 2 – or whatever its successor is called – is being outsourced.
Are you waiting for a more traditional high-end device? The release notes that LG’s next flagship, code-named Rainbow, will hit the market in the first quarter of 2021. This suggests that the new phone will be on par with the LG V-series in terms of specs. So we’d expect a Snapdragon 875 chipset and other flagship trimmings.
Even so, it looks like LG could have a varied lineup between the Velvet 2 rollable phone and Rainbow in 2021. The rollable phone in particular could be a great answer to foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and have a big screen if needed. Hopefully, however, the retractable screen is more durable than foldable phones.
