  • LG will continue to provide software updates for certain phones in certain regions even after the closure of its mobile division.
  • Android 12 may also be in sight on some LG phones.
  • The company’s plans are not set in stone, however.

LG is officially closing its smartphone business, and while this means we won’t see any new LG phones in the future, the company has not yet completely phased out its existing devices. Not now.

The company stated in its press release that it will continue to provide software updates for its phones and that these updates will vary by region.

Separately, the company provided more clarity on its Korean website (h / t) XDA developer) regarding software support plans for their phones.

According to LG, the Android 11 update is currently in the works for selected models, as previously announced. Some LG phones are also upgraded to Android 12. However, OS update plans depend on Google’s distribution plan, product performance, and product stabilization.

The company plans to continue rolling out security updates to its phones, but says it can change its policy at any time in the future.

Essentially, LG’s software support plans are in the air. You may get the Android 12 update for your LG Velvet or Wing, but don’t be sure now.

In view of the major change in the mobile sector, we won’t be surprised if some of these promised updates are also delayed. Plus, LG doesn’t have a great track record of delivering timely software updates. Devices are typically updated months after the comparison, and we anticipate these schedules will become even more uncertain in the future.

When asked, LG spokesman Ken Hong said Android Authority“Yes, future Android updates will be available for some phones in certain markets, although I don’t know if the US is on that list.”

The official referred us to the US team for more information on software updates for LG phones in the area. We’ll update this article when we get a response from the company.
