Here’s what you want most from phones in 2021

The smartphone industry delivered some great devices in 2020, with 5G, high frame rates, and multi-camera setups popping up in general. It lays a great foundation for 2021, and we expect new phones to come with features too.

That made us wonder about the functions Android Authority Readers were dying to see the 2021 phones. Do you want more horsepower? What about improved endurance? How does better video quality sound? This is how you voted in the poll.

We released the survey on December 30, 2020, and just over two-thirds (35.2%) of readers thought lower prices were the number one thing they wanted to see on new phones in 2021.

It’s pretty interesting to see cheaper prices at the top, but it’s not unexpected. In 2020, several phone brands rolled out higher prices on their main phones, apparently due to price increases for silicon. Notable examples include the Xiaomi Mi 10 series, OnePlus 8 series and OnePlus 8T, as well as the Sony Xperia 1 II. In fact, we have also seen brands like LG and Google use flagship chipsets to keep prices up or down .

The only other feature that got more than 25% of the votes was better battery life. 26.9% of respondents chose this feature as the most wanted feature in next year’s phones. Many 2020 high-end devices saw big increases in battery capacity, but the high refresh rate and 5G connectivity required more juice.

Otherwise, better photo quality (9.3%), selfie cameras under the display (9%) and the option “Other” (6.1%) were the only other features that made up more than 5% of the votes. In fact, options like more storage and faster charging couldn’t even get 2% of the vote. This either suggests that people are happy with the loading speed and storage capacity today, or they think it goes without saying that we’ll get these improvements with 2021 phones anyway.

• AntiSocialist: Pure Android without bloatware. Especially a Galaxy without all of the extra Samsung crap that you can’t uninstall.
• DBS: SMALLER Phones.
• Gooseberry: Smaller screen sizes. Not everyone needs a 6 inch or larger screen in their phone.
• HdzBlue: Different designs. Every premium flagship looks very similar. A glass sandwich with maybe a slightly shiny effect on the back glass, a la Galaxy S7. What happened to the outstanding designs like the Chatoyance of the Nexus 4 back, a denim look on the LG G2, a brushed metal look on the G3 and a rubber back on the V10? Or for more modern examples, the translucent Mi 10 Ultra Aurora effect on the Huawei P40 Pro. Frosted glass is the closest thing to differentiating glass phones, but a little variety would go a long way.
