Here’s what we think the Windows 11 release date is
TL; DR
- So far, Microsoft will only give a vague “vacation window” for the release date of Windows 11.
- However, multiple evidence points to a release date on October 20th, or at least sometime in October.
- Eligible Windows 10 PCs get Windows 11 as a free upgrade, and new PCs will ship with it this year.
Last week Microsoft revealed the latest version of its desktop operating system known as Windows 11. During the launch event, the company revealed a lot of details about the software.
However, a release date of Windows 11 has not been disclosed. It confirmed that early beta testers will have the opportunity to use the software this month. It also confirmed that the stable rollout would come sometime during the “vacation season” of this year. But there was no more detailed information.

Thank God, The edge derivative ways to find out when Microsoft is most likely to start Windows 11. For example, in a picture shared by Microsoft, you can see a Microsoft Teams conversation between Stevie Bathiche and Panos Panay, two key executives at Microsoft. In the message, Bathiche tells Panay that he “can’t wait for October”.
Drilling down to an even more specific time isn’t difficult either. There are multiple cases where the date and time in Windows 11 pictures is 11:11 AM on October 20, 2021. Granted, some others point to October 6th, 2021, but it seems very clear that October is when we see the Windows 11 release date.
There is still some confusion about which existing PCs are eligible for the Windows 11 free upgrade. Microsoft has promised to publish a blog post shortly that will provide more information on what to do to prepare your PC for the upgrade and what to do if your hardware is not officially eligible.
