Here’s what it’s like to have Elon Musk’s old phone number
Lyndsay Tucker, a 25-year-old skin care consultant at Sephora, receives many calls for bionic limbs and people who volunteer for space. That’s because her phone number once belonged to Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
Tucker receives at least three calls or texts for Musk Every day, she said NPR, in a Thursday report. This volume increases exponentially when he is involved in a scandal.
Once, she told the publication, she called the Internal Revenue Service and tried to contact Musk about a tax issue.
“I assumed I had messed up something,” Tucker said to NPR. “It was a great relief that they weren’t looking for me.”
Public records attribute Tucker’s number to an apartment that Musk once owned in Palo Alto, California. When he got rid of the number, AT&T accidentally gave it to Tucker. Unfortunately, this number was widely distributed online as a member of Musk.
In response to an email from NPR regarding the digits, Musk reportedly said, “Wow. This number is so old! I’m surprised it’s still out there.”
The confusion apparently forces Tucker to stay up to date on the latest Musk news.
“Whenever I see his name appear on the news, I think, ‘OK, I actually have to learn what he said, because someone will probably tell me or call me,'” Tucker said NPR. “Although I find it funny most of the time, sometimes it gets irritating when it’s like a call after a call after another.”
