Smartphone screenshot functionality

Without some smartphone functionality, we would probably be lost. Taking screenshots is one of them. Whether it’s a digital receipt or an entire webpage with instructions on how to use it later, a screenshot is essential.

However, there are many ways to take a screenshot. We asked Android Authority Readers in a recent survey how they accomplish this task. Here is what they told us.

How do you take screenshots on your phone?

Results

In this case around 1,600 votes were cast, but there is a definitive majority. Despite the different methods that can be used to take a screenshot, pressing the volume buttons and the power button are the most popular. More than 58% of voters prefer this formula, which is the most universal way to capture still images on an Android phone.

Interestingly, using voice assistants is the least common method as only 30 voters (1.9% of the vote) use them.

More than every third reader uses a software link to create screenshots, while the on / off button menu or a quick setting earned almost 8% of the votes. The comments seem to align with this option too, with many users referring to built-in user interface options.

Here’s what you told us:

  • Syamsul Rosli: MIUI three-finger swipe.
  • Tony’s Texas Hots: Samsung Side-of-Palm Swipe. Works every time.
  • Wongwatt: So Huawei users type the excellent knuckles and draw abbreviations for me.
  • Eric Pearson: While I’m left handed and I find the s21 buttons in the perfect place to use the power-vol-down combo. I’ve driven occasionally and found swiping the screen very helpful.
  • The second view: Moto three fingers touch and hold the screen.

That’s it for this poll. Thank you for your votes and comments. If you have any other thoughts on your preferred screenshot method or survey results, drop them below.
