Here’s how to set up virtual backgrounds on Zoom for Android

If you don’t want to rearrange your bookshelf before jumping into a zoom call, virtual backgrounds are a great way to have some fun or add some privacy during meetings. Now the function is finally coming for Android.
Zoom wallpapers have been available on iOS and desktop for a while now, so users can mask their location or add variety to their online meetings.
Speckled by Android policethe feature is available on Android devices running version 5.3.52640.0920 of the app. The update also includes the ability to share phone audio directly with meeting attendees and add breakout room selections.
However, these features cannot take you to a deserted island or the Simpsons’ living room.
How to enable Zoom’s virtual background on Android
To enable Zoom’s virtual backgrounds feature:
- Join a meeting or create a meeting
- Tap the “More” option in the lower right corner of the screen
- Tap on “Virtual Background”.
- If you haven’t already, give Zoom permission to access your camera
- Select a picture or use a picture from your device by tapping the + icon
You can also keep this background for all future meetings or just for your current session. This option can be found in the app’s parent meeting settings.
While Zoom lets you move backgrounds on the desktop, Android functionality is limited to still images for now. It’s not a game breaker, but it does mean your experience can vary between platforms.
