Update, February 24, 2021 (4:30 a.m. ET): We have updated our article to include repair costs for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the brand new Huawei Mate X2. You can scroll down to see these details and information on repairs for other foldable phones.
2019 was the debut of foldable smartphones after years of rumors and speculation. Since then, Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola have launched more foldable devices.
The last thing you want to do is to drop your new purchase as foldable displays are state of the art and expensive too. But what’s the harm to your wallet when your foldable phone needs a screen repair? We have you covered with our overview.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
The foldable clamshell is arguably the most polished foldable phone out there. It has a chic design and a cheaper price than other devices on this list. However, you still pay some premium prices for this device.
SamMobile Repair costs for the Galaxy Z flip screen have been found on the Samsung website. You’ll have to pay $ 499 for the main screen and $ 99 for the back (with the tiny sub screen).
Buy the clamshell phone before December 31, 2020 and you could get your screen repaired for $ 119. This was a one time deal though, so bad luck if you break the screen a second time.
Samsung Galaxy Fold
The first foldable phone from a major brand saw a massive delay from April to September as Samsung addressed the flaws noted by reviewers. Even so, the ~ $ 2,000 Galaxy Fold eventually landed in some markets and brought the foldable concept into commercial reality.

Samsung cut your first Galaxy Fold screen repair (in the US at least) and charged $ 149 as part of the Galaxy Fold Premier service. This applies if you bought the device before December 31st. What happened after that?
Subsequent repairs to Galaxy Fold would net you $ 600, according to Samsung’s website. That’s basically a Galaxy S20 FE on Special right there.

Samsung’s second Galaxy Fold device really knocked the ball out of the woods, delivering a more aesthetically pleasing external screen and ultra-thin glass on the main display for a longer lifespan. So what should you expect if you break either of the screens?
The company’s website states that replacing the main / interior display will get you back $ 549, which is actually a little cheaper than repairing the same screen on the original Galaxy Fold. Otherwise, you’ll be spending $ 139 to replace the outer display, which is the same as the original.
Huawei Mate X / XS
Huawei’s first foldable phone was only available in China, but it offered a different approach to the Samsung device. The Mate X has a fold-out design with a fold-back screen. Meanwhile, the Samsung foldable display had a collapsible display that folded like a book.
In any case, a replacement screen is earmarked for 7,080 yuan (~ $ 1,010) on the Huawei website. That’s nearly half the price of the Mate X in China, which currently retails for around $ 2,400. This seems like the price of the screen rather than the work, so it is possible that the final price will change.

The company subsequently also listed screen replacement prices for the slightly updated Mate XS, also sharing a price of 7,080 yuan. However, at the time of writing, Huawei is running a half price promotion, which means you’ll only pay 3,580 yuan (~ $ 555) for a new screen.
Huawei Mate X2
The Chinese brand is going the way of the Galaxy Fold with the Mate X2 and has a retractable design with an external display instead of the fold-out design of the Mate X / XS. Huawei is also charging nearly $ 3,000 for the device, which is expensive for foldable devices too.
Deleting the leaflet could be an expensive mistake as the Huawei website states that you are paying 5,699 yuan (~ $ 883) to replace the inner screen. That’s essentially the same price as a vanilla Huawei P40.
However, it costs 799 yuan (~ $ 124) to replace the outer screen, which is the repair cost of traditional flagship phones (if not cheaper than these).
Motorola Razr
Motorola’s first foldable phone pays homage to the earlier Razr and features a clamshell design that opens to reveal a tall screen. It’s the cheapest foldable device from a major brand, priced at $ 1,500, but it’s still expensive compared to traditional flagship devices (especially those with the mid-range specs).

PhoneArena reports that a screen replacement for the Razr costs $ 299, citing Verizon and Motorola, making it the cheapest foldable screen repair ever. This is actually only $ 10 more than a Galaxy S21 Ultra screen replacement.
