Smartphone manufacturers always bring out the latest and greatest in hardware in the form of new devices. It is understandable why many people are drawn to the new specs and features that phones have to offer. However, not everyone must or can afford to upgrade to the latest phones and keep up with new launches. It is very likely that many of you are happy with your current device and will be using it for longer than the upgrade cycle. It’s also possible that some of you are stuck with much older hardware that isn’t as fast as you’d like it to be. Your old phone may also no longer be suitable for regular software updates.
With this in mind, we decided to ask you, our readers, how satisfied you are with your current smartphones. This is how you voted in our survey.

Results
We received a total of 4,098 votes in our smartphone happiness survey. 45% of respondents said they are very satisfied with their current phones and do not want an upgrade. Another 36% voted they were happy with their phones but might upgrade to the right device.

Meanwhile, 8% of respondents voted that they were dissatisfied with their existing phones and would like to upgrade soon. 11% voted that they couldn’t afford or justify a new phone.

tmana: Motorola Z3. Actually, it should have switched to Android 10, then the manufacturer decided not to upgrade. Fight with the bare minimum (rent / electrics / internet); can’t afford to drop $$$ on the current version of Android, the 5G device.
AnySmarterIdRunLinux: S8 +. SD card and 3.5mm. No gimmicks. You want to upgrade now but are waiting for a better phone. Fast loading, refresh rates and punch holes are not suitable. Expandable storage made me choose Android over iPhone 10 years ago.
Leon: Sony Xperia 1 II. Headphone jack with great audio, SD card support, incredible pro camera mode that I love to use to take RAW photos, incredible screen, front facing speakers, no notch or cut out camera, much more internal Storage and beautifully simple design that also makes it easier to hold than most phones. It’s the dream phone that I didn’t think would ever be made. Grade 3 only has little things that don’t bother me that much.
Ahmed AbuBakr: At the moment I’m stuck with the Huawei P40 (company phone).
It’s a really good device, but my GOD, I just can’t get along with any google services, I tried. Soon something else will get.
Wongwatt: I literally upgraded the ZenFone 8 256/8 silver this week after Huawei’s last update broke GSpace. But by that I mean I bought a whole new phone because contract phones make very little sense in the UK.
Alvin Yankey: I’m using a LG V30, I switched to a custom ROM Lineage OS 18.1. I’m very happy with it, but I think I’ll get myself a new phone with at least a 90Hz display.
Luuta: Oppo / RealMe has let me down twice now. No promised update to the next Android version, even if the phone I got didn’t arrive until a year after the order, when the operating system was already redundant. And not a single security update at Oppo either. Talk about instant obsolescence. Without Lineage and his predecessor, I would have been scalding with rage. Android 11 should land on my phone last December, then April and still wait. Android 12 is due now and it looks like RealMe won’t update my phone to it, so it’s another instantly outdated phone in terms of security. So I buy cheaper and try to pick a phone that probably supports Lineage because you can’t count on either of them to sell you a phone that will lose its value within 10 months due to junk prices.
indtram: With flagship prices starting at $ 1000 and with a pandemic … don’t know anything about job status … want to upgrade, but really can’t afford it right now … phones are getting too expensive!
Updesh Srivastava: S8 doesn’t want an upgrade, would have been happier if it had got Android 10, still runs great.
Joe Black: Surprisingly happy, but if the Pixel 6 gets new cameras, I’ll immediately skip the shark.
Bert Gregory: One + 8 5G UV. This was my first non-Pixel phone since the Nexus 4. The Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 looked so disappointing that I thought I would try the One +. Very happy with the phone. The photos are almost as good as my Pixel 3 XL. I’ll be comparing the Pixel 6 to the One + 9 when both are out. I will likely try out some of the other high quality camera phones at the same time, including the Sony Xperia series.
Montisaquadeis: Grade 10+ NON 5G model here and it works perfectly for me, damn it, I would still be on my Grade 3 or 4 if we didn’t switch carriers so often.
TheOracle: Vivo Nex S. It’s the longest I’ve kept a phone and it’s still excellent after almost 3 years without any glitches. I’ll probably upgrade to a Xiaomi Mi 10t soon just because I want a bigger battery, 5G, and MIUI’s Second Space. Yes, I know it’s 8 months old, but my Vivo taught me that an older flagship is a very viable option.
Drew Smith: S21 plus here. I love everything about this phone, especially the camera. I haven’t seen any reason to upgrade for a while
Tony Talks: I have an iPhone 11 Pro and love it for the updates, the good display, the battery life, the performance and most of all the size. This is one of the smallest modern phones that can last for years. Have no plans to buy another phone for at least another year.
