Here’s how Google is improving the Assistant on Smart Displays
Google just held its Google Assistant Developer Day, which featured deeper integration of the assistant in Android apps. Instead of simply asking the wizard to open apps, you can ask it to perform certain actions in those apps, such as: For example, logging foods in MyFitnessPal or starting a run with Nike Run Club.
Beyond developing the assistant on your smartphone, Google wants to improve it in all areas of your life. The assistant lives not only on your phone, but also on your Chromecast, smart display, and more. And now that Google has so many ways to access the assistant on smart displays, it’s time to get an update there too.
Enhanced Voices
Google has developed a new language model for the Google Assistant to help make it sound more natural. Two new voices based on this model are introduced today. Developers can use the new voices by changing the model in the Actions console.
Here is an example of what the new language model sounds like.
Trustworthy votes for payments
Since the Google Assistant appears on every screen, it would be nice if you could pay for things right through a smart display. Today, Google is announcing the ability to pay for something with just your voice.
The assistant knows from your voice whether you are really you or not, so you can only make a payment by asking. Google will introduce an on-screen CVC record early next year in case you need it for payment authorization.
Today’s Google Assistant Developer Day has many more cool new features to offer. So stay tuned for more news.
