It wouldn’t be a new version of Android without a wave of new emoji, and that certainly goes for Android 12. The Emojigraph The team identified over 389 new emoji in Beta 1 of Google’s new operating system, and some of the updates might come as a surprise.
Many of the emoji changes for Android 12 are subtle, often aiming for practicality or added depth. The syringe has run out of blood red liquid (presumably to encourage vaccination, like Apple’s emoji), while the lotion nature is a little more obvious. Others are more whimsical – check out the stylized sunset or the fun-loving snowman.

However, it is possible that Google accidentally rubbed some people wrong. The “cell phone” emoji, which used to resemble an Android phone, now looks like … well, an iPhone. This phone emoji shift won’t really matter in practice, but it can frustrate Android 12 users hoping for more universal expressions.
It will be a long time before Google releases the finished Android 12 and these new characters. Don’t be shocked if some emoji return or make further improvements. However, when the new roster is in place, be ready for a new experience – no matter how much you want the blobs to return.
