Google’s AI-powered search tool helps scientists scour coronavirus research

Google has launched a new search tool that makes it easier for scientists and researchers to find information about the coronavirus. The COVID-19 Research Explorer uses semantic search, a technique that uses artificial intelligence to get meaningful results, and more than 50,000 journal articles and preprints in the COVID-19 Open Research Dataset.
In one Blog post on MondayGoogle researcher Keith Hall wrote that conventional search engines are well suited for real-time information about COVID-19 like that Number of cases in the United States, but difficulty understanding the meaning behind research-oriented queries.
“When the user asks a first question, the tool not only returns a series of papers (like a traditional search), but also highlights clippings from the paper that are possible answers to the question,” Hall wrote. “The user can review the clippings and quickly decide whether or not this paper is worth reading.”
According to Google, the tool also includes a unique feature that allows researchers to ask up to two follow-up questions after they see their first results. According to Google, the tool will be available to the research community at short notice, but no specific duration has been specified.
COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, has spread rapidly worldwide. There are now over 3.6 million confirmed cases worldwide more than 1.1 million in the United States from Tuesday.
