Google, Vivo, Xiaomi foldable phones to launch in Q4 2021

For months we have heard reports that Samsung is making foldable phone displays for a variety of OEMs, with these devices expected in late 2021. Now it looks like more details have been released through a Korea-based news agency.

The Elec reports that Samsung will start producing foldable OLED panels for Google, Vivo and Xiaomi in October. It adds that the three companies plan to launch their foldable phones in the fourth quarter of 2021.

It echoed previous reports that the Google foldable display will have a 7.6-inch retractable display, though there’s still no word on an external display. In the meantime, the foldable Vivo is equipped with an 8 “3.4: 3” main screen and a 6.5 “outer panel.

Additionally, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of details on Xiaomi’s next foldable one The Elec say Samsung makes the main screen and CSOT makes the “accessories” screen. The so-called accessory display indicates a foldable clamshell rather than a foldable tablet the size of a tablet with a smartphone-sized external screen. This also makes sense, since Xiaomi already offers a tablet-style device with the recently released Mi Mix Fold.

The outlet previously reported that Oppo was working on a foldable clamshell model with a 7.7-inch main screen and an external 1.5-inch to 2-inch display. But it now reports that the device has been postponed to 2022.

Still, it looks like those looking for a new foldable phone will be spoiled for choice in the fourth quarter of 2021. Are there non-Samsung foldable phones that you look forward to? Let us know through the survey at the top of this page.
