Google appears to be delaying the reopening of its US offices after Coronavirus cases increased in several states. CEO Sundar Pichai previously said the search giant would start bringing workers back from July 6thBloomberg, however, reported Tuesday that in an internal memo, the offices will be closed until September 7th at the earliest.
As in many companies, Google employees worked from home to slow the spread of the novel Corona virus. Pichai had already informed the employees in May that they would do this probably work remotely for the rest of 2020.
In the memo from Chris Rackow, vice president of global security, it was stated that, according to Bloomberg, the company wanted to see “the prospects for the US as a whole are stable” before proceeding to reopening plans.
By early Wednesday, the U.S. had more than 2.6 million confirmed cases, with over 127,000 deaths and 720,000 recoveries. According to Johns Hopkins’ COVID-19 database, there are over 10 million confirmed cases worldwide with nearly 512,000 deaths and 5.4 million recoveries.
Google didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
