Google Play Music is finally shutting down for some users
Google Play Music will be permanently closed to several users around the world. The longstanding music streaming service prevents users from accessing content through its app and web portals.
First discovered by Android policeThe Android app is asking users to transfer their data to YouTube Music because “Google Play Music is no longer available”. Some also cannot access the Play Music website. Reddit users have also confirmed that the service has been retired.
It’s not really a surprise, however. Google first announced the death of Play Music in August in favor of YouTube Music. The news left users looking for a replacement, albeit many Android Authority Readers have since boarded the YouTube Music train, albeit reluctantly.
Although Google has confirmed that users in New Zealand and South Africa would lose access to Play Music as early as September, Android Authority Employees in South Africa will still have access to the Play Music Android app and web portals. Employees in the UK and India also report that they still have access. Some users claim that the service is still available on some devices but not on others.
