Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro could pack quicker charging speeds
TL; DR
- A new report suggests that Google’s Pixel 6 series could hit the market with 33W charging support.
- That would be significantly faster than the company’s current 18W benchmark.
- The report also claims that the rumored Google foldable is delayed.
Google recently revealed the Pixel 6 duo to prevent leaks. Although we now know the basic functions of the phones, some details are still slipping through the cracks. A new report is now allegedly shedding light on the charging speeds of the phones.
Accordingly 91 Cell Phones citing tipster Yogesh, the Pixel 6 series could offer support for 33W charging. That’s a ~ 83% speed increase over the current 18W standard used by Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a. Rumor has it that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro include 4,614 mAh and 5,000 mAh power supplies. Sprucing up the loading speed would be crucial for Google to keep wall times to a minimum. In our experience, the Pixel 5a’s 18W charger takes more than two hours to charge the 4,680 mAh battery. That’s okay for a mid-range car with a long battery life, but probably too slow for a premium flagship.
The report also suggests that 33W chargers were tested at Google headquarters, but that doesn’t mean the charger is in the phones’ boxes. According to reports, Google has confirmed that the Pixel 5a will be its last smartphone to come with a charger. However, if the newer devices support 33W speeds, users will likely need to budget for a phone and an upgraded brick. Google claims that the Pixel 6 Pro will also be an “expensive” device.
Google foldable delayed?
But what if you’re on the lookout for the rumored Google foldable? Well, according to the report, it is being delayed. Previous leaks suggested that the foldable device would hit the market with a 7.6-inch foldable screen in the fourth quarter of 2021, with Samsung supplying the OLED panel and ultra-thin glass.
Since we can’t confirm these leaks yet, we recommend taking them with a pinch of salt. Yogesh has a pretty reliable track record, but Google has yet to confirm charging or battery details for either phone or reveal details about its supposedly foldable device.
Google has confirmed that the Pixel 6 series will hit the market in the fall. So expect a September through October launch for its new flagship duo.
