Google Pixel 5a leak reveals the largest-ever Pixel battery
TL; DR
- The Pixel 5a may ship with the largest battery ever built in a Pixel smartphone.
- Google could announce it on August 17th.
- Otherwise, the phone appears to be identical to the Pixel 4a 5G.
A new set of leaked photos of Google’s Pixel 5a is said to show off not only the phone’s exterior design, but also its internal components, including a 4,680 mAh battery that would be the largest ever in a Pixel.
The pictures show parts being shipped to repair stores, according to a source for Android police. The person also claims the 5a will be announced on August 17th, possibly before a previously rumored release date on August 26th.
There are hardly any other new details, but the back should feel a bit more “rubbery” than on the Pixel 4a 5G, to which the 5a is otherwise very similar. In fact, the only other noticeable difference based on the repair parts is a ripped power button.
The huge battery is probably needed to handle 5G. The technology still leads to massive power consumption in phones, to the point where some people turn them off despite the bandwidth advantages.
Other rumors about the Pixel 5a have pointed to a dual lens camera – seen in one of the photos – and a price tag of $ 450. However, it could use the same Snapdragon 765G processor as the Pixel 4a 5G, which would be disappointing to people hoping it could stay more competitive as the Pixel 6 gets closer this fall.
