Google Pixel 5a ad focuses only on headphone jack
TL; DR
- A new Google Pixel 5a ad spends two minutes talking on its 3.5mm headphone jack.
- The ad is fun and makes the port’s circular character easy.
- However, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will not have the port. This is a very strange thing.
There’s a lot to love about the Pixel 5a, the successor to last year’s Pixel 4a (or the Pixel 4a 5G, you choose). It has an IP rating, a decent 700 series chipset, a dual lens rear camera, and 5G connectivity (of course). Check out our full review to find out more.
Oh yeah, did we mention it has a headphone jack? The Google Pixel 5a has a headphone jack. Do you understand that it has a headphone jack? I hope so because it does. A wonderful headphone jack.

My repetitive writing there resembles a new ad from Google mirrored above. The two-minute ad is all about the Pixel 5a’s headphone jack. It’s very fun and certainly a unique approach to bringing a smartphone to consumers, but it gets a bit awkward knowing that the flagship Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro officially don’t have a port.
If it’s such a cool and integral feature that Google is ready to do an entire ad about it, then why don’t the certainly more expensive phones have it?
Obviously we’re screaming into the wind here. Most of the smartphone industry has decided that flagship phones don’t have headphone jacks, while budget phones do. We disagree – and neither do you – but it is. But it would be nice if the companies didn’t rub us in the face. Bad form, google.
