In May last year, Google launched Pixel 3A and 3A XL. It was the first outing of the Pixel phones in a cheaper price range – and maybe Google’s return to the cheaper Nexus days from earlier. The Pixel 3A phones cost hundreds of dollars less than the main flagship of Pixel 3, and have weakened key features such as wireless charging and water resistance. However, it remained a viable alternative for Android users looking for a pixel phone at a lower cost.
The strategic step worked and that Pixel 3A doubled Google’s pixel sales until this summer. Therefore, we expect to see continuations of the Pixel 3A phones soon, which are probably referred to as Pixel 4A and 4A XL. This is especially true since Google’s competitors have launched a number of their own midtier phones. In April alone, Apple launched its new $ 399 iPhone SESamsung announced its next mid-range lineup Galaxy A phones and Motorola debuted its under $ 300 Moto G Power and G pen. More than ever, phone manufacturers are targeting people on tight budgets who might otherwise only have stuck to their old phone for another year.
Awaiting Google’s announcement of the Pixel 4A and 4A XL (remember, the company hasn’t released any official news yet), we’ve gathered the most compelling and interesting rumors about the devices. And until the start, check back often when we update the summary.
Pixel 4A Price: $ 399 looks most likely
Last year’s Pixel 3A was priced at $ 399, GBP 399 and AU $ 649. The 3A XL costs USD 479, GBP 469 and AU $ 799. It wouldn’t be surprising if Google kept the same pricing model for its Pixel 4A phones this year. There are two reasons: Raising the price of a device specifically designed for more price-conscious users would be a strange step. Second, premium phone manufacturers seem to think $ 399 is a good price. Apple’s new iPhone SE, for example, costs $ 399, just like Samsung’s Galaxy A51, the most advanced phone of its latest Galaxy A series. A Billboard with the $ 399 Price booked by Tech Leaker Evan Blass also noticed the same price.
Pixel 4A release date: could be May 22nd?
Since the start of Pixel 3A is the only reference, it is difficult to determine an exact start date for Pixel 4A. All we can really appreciate is a time in May when Google is at least the same month. A report from the German side Caschy’s blogHowever, the phone said will start more precisely on May 22nd in Europe via the mobile operator Vodafone. If this timing is correct, we’re about a month away from Pixel 4A.
Pixel 4A design: maybe pinhole camera, headphone jack
There is currently no way to know what the Pixel 4A looks like officially, however rendered images of the device from the Indian tech website 91 Mobile Show the phone with a pinhole camera and a headphone jack. The hole punch camera corresponds to the poster models already mentioned and is a trendy design that is used in the latest Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8 phones. Holding the headphone jack wouldn’t be too unexpected since the Pixel 3A also has one. However, as more and more phones don’t have the audio connector, including the Pixel 4, Google can either keep it or leave it out on the Pixel 4A.
Pixel 4A camera: Can have the same dual cameras as Pixel 4
One of the most compelling things about the Pixel 3A was that it had the same great camera as the Pixel 3 and it would make sense for Google to pack the Pixel 4A with the same camera hardware as the Pixel 4. This may include two back cameras (a standard 12.2-megapixel camera and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens) and an 8-megapixel front camera. But don’t be surprised if Google decides to confuse it by not copying itself exactly. Last year, the Pixel 3’s second wide-angle front camera was not transferred to the Pixel 3A, and a time-lapse video mode was introduced for the Pixel 3A, which was new to Pixel phones.
Pixel 4A and 5G connectivity?
When Google started it Pixel 4 and 4 XL in October 2019 the company was founded hasn’t revealed any 5G plans and hasn’t revealed any 5G plans since. It would be surprising if the company decided that the mid-level Pixel 4A would be their first 5G phone. One would think it would store a marquee for the upcoming Pixel 5 flagship (expected in October). But cheaper thanks to Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset, cheaper phones can have 5G connectivity and inexpensive 5G phones are already available, like that Coolpad Legacy 5G and the TCL 10 5GSo it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.
