  • Google Photos may soon have an additional category to better organize important documents.
  • This category allows users to sort documents on a special tab.
  • Documents are also sorted by type, separating posters from receipts and prescriptions from text messages.

Google Photos remains a great home away from home for your precious photos and pictures, but it also becomes much more useful for document storage. Now Google will introduce a new category specifically for documents that act as digital ring binders.

As discovered by Android policeSome versions of Google Photos have a new document category in addition to Places, Things, and People. The Documents section is further divided into screenshots, text messages, handwritten notes and recipes. Judging from a screenshot of the feature, it’s so detailed and meticulous it’s almost overwhelming.

However, if searching categories seems daunting, you can always use the service’s search feature. Coupled with Google Lens support for better text recognition, you should still be able to find the document you want.

The document category has not yet been added to every app. It seems that Google is still ironing out some kinks and will likely toss it out the door in the coming weeks. If you haven’t tried Google Photos, you can use the app below for Android and iOS.
