  • Google Photos adds a new live wallpaper option with the latest Android update.
  • The function cycles through saved images on the phone’s home screen.

Google Photos is a great backup tool for all of your captured moments. However, these moments often rest until you actively recall them. Now the app offers users the option to turn those old recordings into background images.

As discovered by XDAGoogle Photos 5.22 introduces a new option in your phone’s background picker for Android. The option is known as “Storage” and it saves saved images from the phone’s home screen.

The feature is currently rather rudimentary. There is no way to choose which images or folders to display as wallpapers, and neither can users control how often the image changes. The wallpapers you see come from your backups but are ultimately set by Google’s AI.

Google announced in November that users would no longer be able to back up unlimited images for free – a move that has been criticized by our readers. The feature might be a little too simple to warrant its use at this time. However, if you happen to own an old Android device, this can be a nifty way to turn it into an old digital photo frame.

It is unclear when or if the Reminders wallpaper feature will be applied to iOS. However, users can install the latest version of Google Photos by clicking the button below.
