According to people at XDA developer and Android policeGoogle Messages gets a brand new home screen on Samsung phones with One UI 3.1 or higher. Several users have discovered the new design of the Galaxy S21 and S20 series. Some have even seen it on cheaper devices like the Galaxy F62 and Galaxy A52.
The redesigned Google Messages app on Samsung phones consists of two parts. In the upper information area, the name of the app is displayed next to the number of unread messages. In the lower half there is a search bar that you can use to search messages and open conversations. This type of design has been a fundamental element of the One UI since its inception and is a reminder of what Samsung’s other apps look like on the platform. It also enables the app to be operated easily with one hand.
The new Google Messages UI for Samsung phones is reportedly available in version 7.9.051 of the app. However, some Redditors see it in different versions of the app as well, indicating that it may be a server-side update.
If your phone is running One UI 3.1, you can try downloading the above Google Messages version from the Play Store to see if you can get the new app UI. You can also try installing it from APK Mirror. If these methods don’t work, you might have to wait a little longer for your phone to get the server-side update.
