Google Messages adds early support for Android 12’s colorful Material You design
You don’t have to wait until the finished version of Android 12 to know how it will affect your apps. XDA and tipsters Pan you report that Google updated Messages with tentative support for the Android 12 material you designed.
Enable the feature on a device running the Android 12 beta and the new Messages (8.2.042) will add variations of your theme color to various UI elements, including the search bar, category tabs if available, and the floating action button. If you have a colorful wallpaper, your text chats should be just as vibrant.

The feature aimed at Android 12 is currently not available in the beta version of Messages and does not necessarily affect all elements of the app.
You’ll have to wait until the broader release of Android 12 (likely in late summer) before this update becomes commonplace. It can also take a while for Gmail and other apps to properly support color design. For now, though, the release offers an indication of what Android 12 will be like once a lot of your apps support Material You – whether you like it or not, your phone is about to color-match itself.
