Google Maps comes to Apple’s watchOS and CarPlay dashboard – ProWellTech
Google Maps is now also available on the Apple Watch So you can have your walking, cycling and driving instructions right on your wrist.
However, don’t expect to have a full maps app on your wrist. The new app mainly focuses on giving you directions to know places (think at home, at work, etc). To navigate to other destinations, you just have to start on your phone and then “pick up where you left off on your watch,” explains Google.
Google already offered a version of Maps for a few years ago Apples look then Support discontinued in 2017. The Google Maps app for watchOS will be rolled out worldwide in the coming weeks.
In addition to the new Maps app on watchOS, Google Maps now offers a slightly deeper integration with Apple CarPlayThanks to iOS 13.4, third-party apps are now supported in the dashboard. If you’re a regular Google Maps user of CarPlay, you may know the frustration of using the CarPlay dashboard only to see Apple Maps again.
Apple originally started supporting third-party navigation apps in CarPlay with the launch of iOS 12. However, at the time, these apps were limited to full screen mode. With this update, you can now continue to see your Google Maps directions while viewing your media controls or calendar.
