Google is finally dealing with Drive sharing spam

  • Google helps you fight drive-sharing spam by letting you block users.
  • You can also remove anything that a spammer has approved.
  • It will take a few months for the solution to reach everyone.

If you use Google Drive long enough, you will end up getting spam without exception, whether it’s a phishing scam or a not-so-subtle “adult” ad. In fact, without basic measures to stop criminals, you might end up with the same junk over and over again. However, the company is finally addressing the issue as a Android police notes that Google Drive is adding some key blocking tools.

With Google Drive, you will be able to prevent users from sharing content in a moment, thus helping users to save spam in the past. You can also revoke someone’s access, even if you’ve previously shared it. And if you have a ton of spam, you can remove all of the files and folders that a particular user has shared.

Google expects the Drive spam controls to be rolled out in the next few months. When they arrive, you should find them in the Shared With Me section of Drive.

This is not a perfect solution. For example, you cannot whitelist email addresses that you are allowed to share with others. However, the block tools will help you at least deal with Google Drive spam when it arrives. This can be helpful when you need to disconnect from someone and don’t want to see their posts every time you need to find an important document.
