If you think your Android tablet is not reaching its full potential, you’ll be happy to hear that Google may have a (partial) solution. The company has launched an entertainment space that provides Android tablets with a central hub for videos, games and books.

You don’t always have to commit to downloading content outside of streaming services, either. Certain games in the Entertainment Space support instant play, and you can preview books for free as if you were shopping on the Google Store.

You have to be patient to try Entertainment Space for yourself. The new front end will only be available on Walmart’s Onn tablets this month. Support for tablets from Lenovo, Sharp, and others won’t be available until later in 2021.
Even so, this could be a welcome addition. Many people use their Android tablets as media players and slot machines. However, this usually means that you have to divert your attention to numerous apps that are not always optimized for larger screens. Not only does Entertainment Space bring all of your content together in one place, it also increases the likelihood that you will find and use tablet-friendly apps.
Google may be counting on this last part to kickstart Android tablet sales. While tablet sales boomed overall thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, IDC estimated that Android tablets lost market share to Apple’s iPad in the first quarter of 2021 – they’re not as compelling as Google would like them to be. Entertainment Space could give you better reasons to buy an Android slate, at least if you want to use one to entertain yourself while staying at home.
