Google Chrome makes it easier to fix weak passwords
- Google released Chrome 88 with significantly improved control over passwords.
- It helps identify weak passwords and gives you a central place to update saved logins.
- The functions will be made available to desktop and mobile users in the coming weeks.
Use the web long enough and you’ll always have a few weak logins stored in your password manager. At least Google wants to fix this. It just released Chrome 88 with features to help you fix weak passwords and update others.
The new version of Chrome offers an easy way to check your settings if there are weak or compromised passwords. If so, all you have to do is click a button to be taken to the appropriate site and provide a more secure login.
It should also be faster to update multiple Chrome passwords at the same time. The new software has a redesigned area with which you can update numerous user names and passwords in quick succession. If you’ve reused a password or need to respond to an account violation, you can quickly process multiple logins.

Chrome 88’s password features will be rolling out in the “coming weeks,” although depending on the platform you choose, you may have to wait. The centralized password updates will initially be available for desktop and iOS, with Android receiving an update “soon”.
It might be worth the wait if you’re using Chrome to organize your passwords. Such features can help you avoid security loopholes, especially with accounts where you may not think much about password strength. Ideally, you will have fewer nasty surprises from attackers trying to hijack your accounts.
