TL; DR
- Google may have accidentally removed the name of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 XL.
- The latter would make sense because Google has been using “XL” for larger devices since the first Pixel.
- However, previous rumors suggested that the larger device is called the Pixel 6 Pro.
We have seen many leaks related to the Google Pixel 6 series describing two phones that could tick many boxes for flagship devices in 2021. Now it looks like Google may have accidentally mentioned these devices online.
Google is hosting a game developer summit this week, and the company has pulled the curtain on several game-oriented features for Android 12. XDA developer noted that an official developer-related form casually mentioned the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 XL”. Google has since deleted those mentions, but you can view the saved screenshot below, courtesy of XDA.
We obviously expected Google to call it the Pixel 6 series, but it’s interesting to see how the Pixel 6 XL name is used. It’s not surprising given that Google has been using the XL branding since the very first Pixel in 2016. However, we’ve heard rumors that the bigger Pixel could be called the Pixel 6 Pro.
Either way, it looks like the bigger phone could be a contender for devices like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and OnePlus 9 Pro. Google’s XL device is said to offer an in-house processor, a 5,000 mAh battery and a flexible triple rear-view camera system, which may be equipped with a periscope lens.
Another recent rumor is that Google may be aiming for system updates for the Pixel 6 series for five years. This source isn’t rock solid though, so we’ll wait for other leaks or official details before we get our hopes up.
