The brand new Amazfit Bip S looks just like the original, but there are more good things under the hood.

Amazfit

When the little-known Amazfit Bip came on the market a few years ago, it felt like a wonderful secret: an Apple Watch that looks the same at a fraction of the price. Now there is finally a new GDP in the city. It’s almost indistinguishable from the original, but there are improvements under the hood – and the price is still ridiculous: only $ 69.99. For a limited time, however, Cheapskate readers can Amazfit Bip S Smartwatch for $ 62.99 with promo code CNET10.

The Bip S is still equipped with a 1.3-inch transflective screen (which is absolutely great outdoors even in direct sunlight). It increases the resolution a little and adds more color. These improvements are subtle but welcome, as are the additions to Bluetooth 5.0 and a compass.

More noteworthy: the Bip S has 10 sport modes (from four up to and including swimming), a BioTracker PPG heart rate sensor and Bluetooth music controls. You can now play and pause directly from the watch, skip tracks and adjust the volume.

Battery life has always been a big gip claim to fame, and the S is no different. Amazfit promises up to 40 days (that is Days(Not hours) basic usage and 15 days “typical” usage, which means to use functions like GPS and automated heart rate monitoring. I’ll make it: I wear an Apple Watch every day, but when I travel I switch to GDP. Who else wants to charge with another device? No need here.

Amazfit’s companion app is still a mess, and this time I was hoping for a less plastic watch design. But these are complaints about small potatoes. The Bip S keeps everything that was good about the original and makes it a little better, while the price remains astonishingly low.
