Samsung changed something this year by bringing the S Pen to its Galaxy S series flagship – the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Everyone thought this was the end of the Galaxy Note series, but the company later confirmed it wasn’t. Now we may know why Samsung hasn’t given up the possibility of new Galaxy Note phones entirely.
According to Twitter tipsters TronSamsung is currently discussing relaunching the Galaxy Note series next year because the market reaction to the Galaxy S21 Ultra with the S Pen did not live up to the company’s expectations.
While the Galaxy S21 Ultra is the only phone in the series that supports the S Pen, its implementation isn’t ideal. For one thing, there is no holster for the pen on the phone. The device is also not compatible with Bluetooth-related S Pen functions.
Contrary to what the tipster suggests, Samsung recently announced that sales of its flagship models rose in the first quarter of this year. The Galaxy S21 series has been called the star performer.
Although the company has not published a worldwide sales breakdown for different models in the series, the base model Galaxy S21 is the best-selling device in the company’s home market. As early as March, it accounted for 52% of total Galaxy S21 sales in South Korea. It was followed by the S21 Ultra, which, according to Samsung, made up 27% of the series’s sales in the same market.
The global picture may be similar to what is happening in South Korea, or it may be different from what the tipster suggests. However, the good news for Note series fans is that this experiment to bring the S Pen to the Galaxy S series may push Samsung into making a better phablet next year.
