Fitbit Sense finally gains ECG functionality in some countries via an app
- Fitbit Sense’s EKG functionality is now available in some countries.
- Some users in the US, UK, and Germany now have access to an EKG app in the Fitbit App Store.
The Fitbit Sense debuted as the company’s new flagship smartwatch in August. It is equipped with sensors, the boss of which is a new EKG monitor. While users in some countries had to wait for the EKG functionality to be activated according to local laws and tests, the rollout of the features now seems to be gaining momentum.
Some users posting on the Fitbit subreddit have now confirmed that the ECG sensor’s smarts are now available through a new Fitbit app. This confirms Fitbit’s confirmation Android Authority that the functionality would be available in October. In particular, the rollout does not seem to be limited to the USA. Those who post on the thread also live in the UK while others checked in from Germany.
In some markets the app is simply referred to as “EKG”, but this title is likely to change due to the dominant local language. For example, the app is called “EKG” in Germany. Even so, the app is now listed in the Fitbit Store in some markets and allows users to perform an EKG scan with the Sense. The EKG, or electrocardiogram, allows users to gain insight into the performance of their heart and possible conditions such as irregular or irregular heartbeat.
The Sense is the first Fitbit to receive this functionality, and now equates it to the Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and Withings ScanWatch.
