- Fitbit is apparently testing a cheaper subscription.
- It could cost $ 2.99 per month and provide access to lifetime historical fitness data.
If you’re a Fitbit user, you probably already know Fitbit Premium. The subscription service gives fitness enthusiasts in-depth insights into their health data, including tips on decoding data, advanced sleep stats, training plans, and more. The service currently costs $ 9.99 per month, or $ 79.99 per year, but the company could soon offer its users a third cheaper plan.
According to a customer survey by Android CentralFitbit is asking users to consider a new tier of service that costs just $ 2.99 per month. That’s less than half of the existing Fitbit Premium monthly subscription price. Unlike the more expensive plans, this affordable Fitbit subscription may not have much going for it.
According to the survey, the new tier gives Fitbit users access to additional historical data. With the current Fitbit free plan, users can only view health data for the past 30 days. For some metrics, information access is still limited to seven days. The cheaper $ 2.99 plan could extend those deadlines. Fitbit supposedly describes it like this:
See your activity, sleep, stress, and health metrics for the past month and year forever with unlimited historical data.
As you may know, Google recently completed the acquisition of Fitbit. Under the terms of the contract, the Mountain View-based technology giant cannot use user data for ad targeting. Hence, the new subscription could be a way that Google wants to monetize Fitbit data and increase sales.
There’s no official word on if and when Fitbit will roll out the new plan. We’ll certainly update our comprehensive Fitbit guide in case the cheaper plan becomes official.
