Exynos 2200 with AMD GPU could come to laptops, too
- A new report suggests that Samsung’s next flagship chipset – likely the Exynos 2200 – could hit laptops this year.
- This new chip would be Samsung’s first with an AMD GPU.
- It’s likely that Samsung will want to position the chip as a competitor to the Apple M1 by using it across multiple lines.
Earlier this year, Samsung confirmed that we will see the fruits of its partnership with AMD sometime in 2021. This Exynos brand processor would theoretically be Samsung’s most powerful to date. AMD’s graphics processing would likely be superior to ARM’s Mali.
Well, according to a report by The Korea Economic DailySamsung might plan to launch this new processor in a laptop. Since it is far from certain that the chipset – likely referred to as the Exynos 2200 – would end up in smartphones and tablets, this rumor suggests Samsung is blowing up Apple’s M1 strategy of having one chip for everything could.

According to the report, Samsung could plan to launch a Windows laptop in the second half of this year. The Exynos 2200 would be included in this laptop making it an ARM based system. This wouldn’t be the first time Samsung has launched an ARM-based laptop – the Galaxy Book S features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8Cx. However, this would be the first time Samsung has used the same chip to power a laptop and its smartphones.
However, we don’t expect a Samsung phone to hit the market this year with the Exynos 2200 on board. The company could possibly use the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S22 for this. However, this ARM powered laptop might give us an idea of what to expect for future chip phones.
