Elon Musk, SpaceX closer to getting next-gen Starship spacecraft off the ground
The development process of SpaceshipThe next generation spacecraft, Elon Musk and SpaceX, hopes to someday be able to take people to Mars had its speed fluctuations, but now things seem to be moving towards another short test flight or “hop” of a new prototype.
A small single-engine prototype is synchronized “Starhopper” hovered over the Gulf Coast of Texas for a short flight last year have some larger Starship prototypes succumbed to mishaps during pressure tests. But the newest iteration called SN4 has passed the same tests and was also successfully lit while being held in place.
Such static fire tests are usually one of the last steps before a missile finally leaves the ground.
Musk said the SN prototype series will be able to fly to a height of at least 20 kilometers, but the SN4 will first make a 150-meter jump like Starhopper.
It is not yet clear when the larger Starship prototype could finally get some air, but witnesses near the SpaceX test facility in Boca Chica, Texas discovered that the Raptor motor was removed from SN4 after the test fire and by another was replaced.
The The FAA has issued a flight report for the airspace around Boca Chica for Tuesday through Friday this week, along with Road and beach closures of Cameron County. SpaceX is expected to do another hold-down burn test of the new Raptor engine this week, which I hope will soon pave the way for a jump.
